Lower Colville River, Locality 86/28

Northern Alaska Map         Leaf Fossils

 

Kogosukruk Tongue of the Prince Creek Formation. As with locality 86/27 this non-marine section consists of numerous low rank (sub-bituminous to bituminous) thin well-bedded to papery coals separated by yellow and gray mudstones and siltstones, sometimes showing cross bedding. Numerous ironstone float blocks contain Parataxodium leaves, cones, Quereuxia, fern fragments, part of a large tree base suggesting the original diameter was approximately 50 cm and the core of a ceratopsian horn that was described in Parrish et al. (1987).
