Kukpowruk Formation

Specimen: 96 RAS 116

Description. Heavily rooted gray/brown "lumpy" silty mudstone containing abundant large Podozamites and long and short Pityphyllum leaves, Birisia fronds, and Equisetites. This passes up into coals with ironstone nodules. The ironstones contain abundant Podozamites. These pass up into sands with burrows. Long-leaved Pityophyllum occurred in fine sands below the siltstone. 96 RAS 116 was a sample of Pityophyllum from the sands.

Interpretation. Vegetated floodplain environment.
