Lower Colville River, Locality 86/51

Northern Alaska Map         Leaf Fossils

 

Kogosukruk Tongue of the Prince Creek Formation. A yellow sandstone exposed near the river level, planar laminated, flaggy and ripple marked near the top, containing conifer shoots (Parataxodium), a fragment of an angiosperm leaf, wood fragments, sometimes current aligned. This may be a waterlain tuff, the laminations being very continuous and the individual grains are not distinct. At the base of the sandstone is an ironstone concretionary layer with wood and a freshwater bivalve.
